Struggling with small brown spots on your skin? Try Photofacial

Have you started noticing small brown spots on your skin? These brown spots are a form of skin damage, and they represent one of the most common signs of premature aging. The sun is your skin’s worst enemy: Most of the changes in skin conditions we associate with getting older are a direct result of exposure to UV radiation. Sunlight breaks down the collagen in our skin, making it weaker and more susceptible to wrinkling and sagging. Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to improve your skin tone and restore a more youthful complexion

WHAT IS SKIN REJUVENATION – PHOTOFACIAL TREATMENT™?

is a simple, non-surgical precise bursts of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology cleared by the FDA to safely and effectively target the pigment under the skin’s surface to correct discoloration, improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and fade common signs of premature aging, including sun damage, age spot, melasma, rosacea, spider veins and vascular lesions.

CONTRADICTION:

IPL treatment is NOT recommended for:

  • Pregnant women or people with chronic health conditions.
  • People with certain skin conditions, like eczema and psoriasis. Patients with these conditions should choose skin treatments that won’t cause any inflammation, like our skin condition facial.
  • People with tanned skin, dark skin, or melasma. Since the IPL therapy targets the melanin, when applied to darker skin, this light can cause skin lightening or hyperpigmentation. People with tanned and darker skin should consider having a chemical peel instead of IPL Skin Rejuvenation. If you’re concerned about the downtime associated with chemical peels, you can have a mild peel formula to ensure rapid, painless healing.

Your treatment provider will discuss your own customized maintenance program to ensure you continue to enjoy your youthful appearance. For maintenance, one treatment every six months is ideal.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

The best candidate is someone who has an uneven complexion with signs of discoloration or visible veins on their skin. Photo Rejuvenation treatments may also work to improve the look of fine lines.

Photo Rejuvenation treatments work best for light to medium skin tones.

Absolutely. Exact treatment times may vary depending on the patient, but a single session typically takes 15-20 minutes.

Because intense pulsed light is absorbed very efficiently by red blood cells, the IPL Skin Rejuvenation is one of the best treatments available for visible blood vessel abnormalities. Our patients use the IPL Skin Rejuvenation to dissolve broken capillaries and spider veins for a more even, youthful complexion. This procedure is also ideal for treating conditions that cause diffuse redness, like rosacea.

Most patients receive 3-8 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated.
IPL is unique in its ability to change the structure of skin cells, making them behave more like young cells. A 10-year study conducted by Stanford University in California demonstrated that having two to three IPL photo facials per year for a decade can positively alter the genes of dermal cells. The genetic expression of aged skin cells treated regularly with IPL resembles that of young, healthy skin cells. As such, researchers think intense pulsed light can prevent (and not just treat) many of the superficial signs of aging.

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams, or makeup before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. You must also avoid tanning, including with self-tanners. You may be advised to shave the area before your treatment. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated.

DURING THE TREATMENT

One session usually lasts 15-20 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

The IPL treatment feels like a light snap or flick on the surface of the skin – similar to being popped with a rubber band. Some individuals will benefit from a topical numbing cream for some more sensitive areas. Three to eight of these quick 15 minutes treatments spaced one month apart, create beautiful results for most people.

The applicator has a cooling feature built into it to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you’re treating a more sensitive area, like the upper lip. If you find it too uncomfortable, let the operator know and they can adjust the treatment accordingly.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

Your skin may feel warm, like a sunburn, and can remain pink for anywhere from a few hours to a day. Be sure to follow instructions for before and after your treatment.
The IPL skin rejuvenation/photo facial is powerful enough to access the deeper layers of the dermis but gentle enough that it won’t cause excessive swelling, redness, or lasting irritation. The pulses of light emitted during IPL therapy are less concentrated than a laser beam, so IPL treatment is much less invasive then other lights.

It really depends on how your skin reacts to the treatment and how you care for your skin afterward. For example, if you protect your skin from the sun, the results will last longer. We recommend one touch-up session every 3-6 months, depending on your skin responds to the treatment.

There is no downtime. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.

To make the most of the IPL photofacial’s age-fighting properties, it’s essential that you avoid sun exposure, tanning, especially in the weeks before and following IPL treatment. All skin resurfacing procedures make the skin temporarily more sensitive to UV radiation, so applying a SPF 50+ sunscreen is a must. You should also keep your weight stable because weight gain and loss distort the skin, and avoid unhealthy habits, like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Taking these steps will preserve the collagen and elastin in your skin.
You should also avoid hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin for the first 2 days after your treatment.

Yes, you can apply makeup immediately after your treatment, but make sure you put on sunscreen first.

Most people who have a photofacial can apply makeup immediately after their appointment and return to work within 24 to 48 hours. If any side effects occur after this procedure, they’re usually limited to very mild redness and skin sensitivity. This lack of downtime makes skin rejuvenation an appealing alternative to deep chemical peels, which can produce symptoms of redness and flaking for up to two weeks.

Each treatment costs $290. When you purchase a package of your recommended plan, you will receive a special discount at our office.
